Our story
How did we get here?
Cubby Cafe was dreamed up by the Erceg family as they walked over the grounds of 11 Acre Farm, visualising how they could create a space that both aligned with their family values and could be enjoyed by the wider community.
When we purchased the property it had an old house at the front, a hay shed and stables further back. We loved the character of the rusty old tin and knew there and then we wanted to preserve these existing buildings. The hay shed is now - Cubby Cafe.
We knew we wanted a permaculture farm to grow chemical free produce to serve and run workshops on permaculture principles, aquaponics setups, fermentation and pickling courses, bees, chickens and the necessary equipment.
We spent the first year rescuing established fruit trees from around Perth and transplanting them into our food forest.
Next we acquired our furry friends
Donkeys, pigs, goats, sheep, peacocks, guinea fowl, quails, bunnies, bees, ducks and every breed of chicken you can imagine. We now have a menagerie of over 300 animals that both help us with our produce, but that give you a daily dopamine hit with your caffeine hit.
Cubby lane
When it came to entertaining the kids, we didn’t want the staid old playground. So we rescued old cubby houses from Marketplace and turned them into a little town for kids to play until their hearts are content. A cafe, hair salon, dr surgery, discoteque, classroom, police station, green grocer, train station, fire station and stage where they can role play the day away.
Each cubby has been named after the original family who owned them.
